- Ceftriaxone is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. Like other third-generation cephalosporin, it has broad-spectrum activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. This is used to treat serious infections, particularly those caused by susceptible strains of Enterobacteriaceae. Sulbactam is a β-lactamase inhibitor. This drug is given in combination with β-lactam antibiotics to inhibit β-lactamase, an enzyme produced by bacteria that destroys the antibiotics. Ceftriaxone is a cephalosporin antibiotic. It works by interfering with the formation of the bacteria’s cell wall so that the wall ruptures, resulting in the death of the bacteria.
